A juror at an art show once commented that my pottery was a great example of functional art. I then knew I was hitting my stride as a potter creating work that was aesthetically appealing and practical.
I have dabbled in all areas of working with clay – wheel, slab, hand-built, sculpture, wood fired, raku -- but have found that creating items that I would want to use in my own home on a daily basis is what resonates with me.
One thing that differentiates my work from other potters is my color palettes. I like bright reds, yellows and aqua, as well as the colors of the earth and sky.
As a functional potter, I use stoneware clay that allow my pieces to go in the oven, dishwasher and microwave. For the safety of all, I use only lead-free glazes.
